Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARSHALL GRANT SMITH April 18, 1935 - December 15, 2010 Peacefully, after a long battle with Alzheimers, Marshall passed away on Wednesday, December 15, 2010 at Oakview Place Personal Care Home at the age of 75 years. Remaining to forever cherish Marshall's memory is his wife Ruby, of 52 years of marriage; daughters, Kim Swarts (Ted), Karen Lymburner (Wade), and Pam Karppa (Peter); as well as six adored grandchildren, Ryan, Austin, Mitchell, Nicholas, Lauren and Tristan. He was predeceased by his parents, Grant and Babs, and brother Dick. Marshall was born in Edmonton and moved to Winnipeg and attended the University of Manitoba where he graduated from the Faculty of Commerce. He spent his career at Great West Life Assurance Company where he met the love of his life. After 35 years in the Toronto and Winnipeg offices, Marshall retired as Executive Vice President, Investments. He also served 25 years as Trustee on the City of Winnipeg's Sinking Fund and Employee Benefits Investment Committee. He volunteered for many years at St. Andrews Anglican Church as Treasurer and at the Grace Hospital Foundation. Marsh was an avid curler at the Winnipeg Winter Club and spent many years golfing at St. Charles Country Club where he made many memories and life-long friends. Travelling with family and friends over the years was a special time he always looked forward to. On Friday, January 7, 2011, Marshall's Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. in St. Andrews Anglican Church, 2700 Portage Ave. in Winnipeg with Rev. Ian Mills, presider. The family wishes to acknowledge and thank all the doctors and nurses at Grace Hospital who cared for Marshall and the Alzheimer's Society of Manitoba for providing valuable support. A special thank you to the nurses and caregivers in the Special Needs Unit and 2nd Floor at Oakview Place Extendicare, for their loving care. In lieu of flowers, if desired, donations may be made in Marshall's memory to the Alzheimer's Society of Manitoba, 10 - 120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2.
