ALEX E. SCHWARTZ On Saturday, December 11, 2010, Alex Schwartz passed away peacefully. He is survived by his three children, Candice (Stephen) Freed, Linda McCheyne, and Morry (Bernie) Schwartz; eight grandchildren, Marissa, Jonathon, Jacob, Michael, Devyn, Reegan, Dorian, Reed, and his brother, Arnold Schwartz of Regina. He was predeceased by his wife, Renée in 1994. Alex was a successful Manufacturer's Agent and founding President of the Western Canada Children's Wear Markets Inc. He served as Canadian Regional Vice President of the Bureau of Wholesale Sales Representatives. He was a Shriner for many years. Our father was a people person and an avid reader. He was a lover of politics who at the age of 84 years, audited a Political Science course at the University of Manitoba. He travelled extensively throughout the world with his wife, Renee. Their travels took them all over Canada, the United States, Europe and the Orient. Alex was an independent thinker who never stopped learning, asking questions and trying to understand other's perspectives. He was a regular contributor to the Winnipeg Free Press with his many letters to the Editor. Our father enjoyed special relationships with his children, grandchildren, brother and many friends. He looked at his grandchildren as his special dividends whom he treasured. Alex's jovial nature was infectious and he always tried to make others laugh. Many of his core values, morals and beliefs were formed early on in his life as a child of the Depression. His success in his life's work never altered his fundamental belief that all people, regardless of their circumstance, were deserving of respect. During his lifetime, he strived to pass on his knowledge and beliefs to his children and grandchildren. He will forever be remembered by all those lives he touched. Services were held at the Shaarey Zedek Synagogue on Monday, December 13, 2010. In our father's memory, donations may be made to The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, or a charity of your choice.
