LARUS S. GISLASON January 23, 1924 - December 23, 2010 Peacefully, with his granddaughter Melissa and her husband Blair by his side, Larus passed away at the age of 86. Larus was predeceased by his wife Margret. He is survived by his sons, Douglas and Dennis (Karen), and his daughter Darlene. He is also survived by Margret's children, Donna, Janice and Diane. He leaves his one sister Sally, plus numerous grandchildren and great-grand-children to cherish his memory. Larus was born in Lundar, MB, one of six children. After his natural mother passed away in 1927 his father returned to Iceland with the three oldest children, leaving the three youngest children to be adopted here in Canada. Larus was adopted at the age of five, to the Gislason family, in the one-sixth district. It was in this family and this community that he spent his childhood and young adult years. In 1952, he married Frieda Barke, and bought a farm next to his adopted parents in one-sixth. He soon sold that farm and bought another farm near Treherne, MB. He farmed this property for five years until he moved the family to Winnipeg in 1960. Soon after moving to Winnipeg, he started working for MTS. He worked at the telephone system for 26 years until his retirement, as a purchaser for MTS, at the age of 65. Dad's marriage dissolved in the late 1960s and he was bachelor for a number of years raising his boys in Winnipeg. Later on he met and married Margret (Marg). Larus' and Marg's marriage was very happy, Dad was very saddened since Marg's passing seven years ago. Family was of utmost priority for Larus, he was never judgmental and always supportive of his children and grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation, Suite 200 - 6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6. Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn, 4000 Portage Ave., to celebrate his life. Chapel Lawn 885-9715
