MARTHA REMPEL Martha Rempel passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at the age of 84. Martha is survived by her son Bryan, daughter and son-in-law Deyanne and Gerry Cleave, granddaughter Janelle. She is also survived by her extended family Elma and Rollin Reimer, Adina Penner, Milton Penner, Gil and Heather Penner, and brother-in-law John and Ruth Barkman. Martha was predeceased by her spouse Edmar; daughter Beverley; parents Peter K. and Elizabeth Penner; sister Joanne Barkman and sister-in-law Marlene Penner. Martha's faith was an integral part of her life. She had a strong and simple faith which guided her through all of life's joys and difficulties. She had a positive outlook on life despite her many health issues. Mom rarely complained about the many hardships she had encountered. In her healthier years, her home was always open to family and friends who needed a place to stay or a place to gather. She was a strong woman who focused on the needs of others. She will always be remembered for her giving heart, her continuous support to all, her commitment to her family and friends and her volunteer work in the community. Mom and Dad, in 1957, were one of the founding couples of enVision Community Living, formerly known as the Association for Community Living. She had a passion to make a better world for special individuals. Martha poured her soul into seeking the good of people with intellectual disabilities. The underlying goal in every program she promoted was always that mentally challenged individuals be accepted in the community and treated with dignity. We as a family would like to thank Dr. Krahn and the staff of Bethesda Hospital, as well as her homecare workers for their dedicated care. We would also like to thank Chaplain Larry Hirst for his support and encouragement to Mom during her many visits to Bethesda Hospital. Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, December 29 at Grace Mennonite Church, 430 Third St., Steinbach. Interment at Heritage Cemetery. Viewing will take place at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 28 at Grace Mennonite Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to enVision Community Living, 84 Brandt St., MB R5G 0E1. Dear Family of Martha and Edmar, Your folks are a big part of my memories from childhood in Steinbach. My folks, Bert and Gladys Friesen, were with yours all the way through the beginning of ARC and Kindale in Steinbach. Our folks all made such an impression on me with their dedication to the cause for the handicapped and their Christian values. I feel the loss of them, even though it's been a while since I have seen them. My deepest sympathy for your loss. Sharyn (Friesen) Jarzombek - Posted by: Sharyn Jarzombek (Friend) on: Jan 03, 2011
