Condolences & Memories (6 entries)

  • I met Sandy during the planning of the RCA Apprentice Training Battery Reunion in June, 2003. It was a wonderful reunion and Sandy was right on top of everything. A wonderful experience for all of us 'boy soldiers'. Thank you, Sandy. Thinking of you in July of 2021. Gunner Apprentice Turney 1964 Intake. The military experience made a man out of a boy! - Posted by: Morgan Turney (Former Gunner Apprentice 1964 Intake) on: Jul 30, 2021

  • Sandy and I formed a bond of friendship that was to last from our meeting in 1956 at RCSA Shilo through 1961 with #1 LAA in Picton. I had the pleasure of Dining with him in 1977 when he was visiting Toronto, and that was to be the last time we saw each other. I've always thought of Sandy as a bright energetic level-headed guy whose friendship was unwavering. Sincerest condolences to his wife Ginni and family. - Posted by: Murray Coursey (Best Friend 1956 - 1961) on: Jan 08, 2014

  • I had the privilege of working with Lowell(I refused to call him Sandy) helping him to organize reunions and trying to maintain an up to date contact list of artillery apprentices. He was so dedicated in ensuring that we all continued to remember where a bunch of young boys got their start in life. He was the driving force behind our apprentice cairn situated in Artillery Park in Shilo MB .. There is so much more I could say about this very good friend of mine. I shall miss him very much. My sincere condolences to Ginni and family - Posted by: Stu Hamilton (Friend) on: Dec 30, 2010

  • Sandy's passion for the Gunner Apprentice Soldiers in general and the 56-58 intake in particular resulted in camaraderie and enjoyment that could not have been achieved without his dedication and leadership. He will be greatly missed by all Gunner A/S who I know share in his families loss. Our sincerest condolences to you Ginni and your family. • "Sandy" Sandwith left us way too soon. I think I can speak for all "Green Monsters" when I say we have lost a truly remarkable man who worked tirelessly so that we all could have the opportunity to renew and/or maintain many old friendships. Sandy's efforts were the reason that the reunions were so successful and that so many of us were able to share many wonderful memories. Deepest condolences go to Ginni and the entire family. Our thoughts are with you all. - Posted by: Art Saul (Friend) on: Dec 28, 2010

  • Lowell (Sandy) will be long remembered for his compassion, esprit-de-corps, devotion and his meticulous attention to our Canadian Army Soldier Apprentice Battery reunions, creating and maintaining our website and being the consummate communicator for all of of us who were boy soldiers half a century ago. Our sincerest condolences to his family - we want you all to know how much we appreciated and respected "Sandy". - Posted by: Simon "Sandy" Guillet (Friend) on: Dec 27, 2010
