MARILYN JOYCE FRANCE (nee Mazur) It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved mother, sister and grandmother, Marilyn France of Winnipeg, Manitoba on Thursday, December 23, 2010 at the Health Sciences Centre at 81 years of age. Left to mourn Marilyn's memory are her children Robert, Karen (Neil) and Kathy (Peter); sisters Rose Kotak and Nettie Pawling; nieces and nephews John (Judy), Angela (Michael), Alan, Carol (Bob), Rick (Natalie), Susan, and Brian (Michelle); and her grandchildren Haydon, Avery and Taylor. She was predeceased by her parents, Peter and Josephine Mazur. Marilyn was born and raised in Medika, MB and moved to Winnipeg to obtain her B.A. Honours at the University of Manitoba. She was an active and highly-esteemed member of both her community and church. She was a founding member of the Charleswood Historical Society and keen supporter of Varsity View Community Club. Marilyn's vision of social justice led her to obtain membership in Amnesty International, Ten Days for World Development, and Project Peacemakers; while her deep regard for Nature led her to join the Manitoba Naturalist Society, the Canadian Wildlife Federation and various Horticultural societies. Marilyn's faith played a large part in her activities and life. She was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church and its Catholic Women's League, the Associates of the Child Jesus, the Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace (CCODP), and a devoted member of Inter-faith and prayer groups. Mom enjoyed her reputation as a generous spirit, loyal friend, devoted mother and grandmother, adventurous cook, avid gardener and intellectual... kudos she well deserved. Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated on Friday, December 31, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Roman Catholic Church, 4588 Roblin Blvd. with Rev. Msgr. Maurice Comeault, P.H., presiding. For those who wish viewing will be held prior to Mass. A private family Interment will be held in Holy Ghost Cemetery, 4387 Main Street at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marilyn's memory to the CCODP or to a charity of choice. Farewell to thee but not farewell To all my fondest thoughts of thee: Within my heart they still shall dwell; And they shall cheer and comfort me
