BAREND THOMAS DEGROOT 1948 - 2010 After a courageous battle with cancer, Barend (Bob) went home to be with his Lord on Monday, December 27, 2010. He was predeceased by his parents, Lyda and Pete deGroot and sister Els. He is survived by his loving wife Edith; his children, Peter (Margarette), Gerald (Lorraine), Kimberly (Ken), Amanda (Brent), Devan and Chris (Sheryl), many grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; sisters, Nelleke (Herman), Karin (Kees); and niece Yvette (Neils). Barend was born and raised in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. He immigrated to Winnipeg, Canada in 1970 where he met and married Edith. He spent his working years at Dynamic Machine where he showed there was no challenge too great to solve. He taught many apprentices through his career and was very proud of their accomplishments. Bob spent many years volunteering with the Boy Scouts of Canada and in his retirement he enjoyed his fellowship with the Men's Breakfast Group. As a family, many years were spent travelling and camping. He will be sadly missed by those who sought his advice and help as he was always willing to lend a hand. Bob's faith in Christ helped him negotiate the difficult path of his illness with courage and humour. The family wishes to thank Riverwood Church Community for their loving prayers and support, also the staff at CancerCare and Palliative Care who were very compassionate and caring. Cremation has already taken place and there will be a celebration of life service at Green Acres Funeral Home, Friday, December 31, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, 675 McDermot Ave., Room ON1 160, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9 or St. Boniface Hospital and Research Foundation - Respiratory Centre, D1003 - 409 Tache Ave., Winnipeg, MB R2H 2A6.
