Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySOPHIE NELLIE WASOWICZ (SLOMIANY) It is with great sorrow that our family announces the sudden passing of Sophie Nellie Wasowicz on December 28, 2010 at Seven Oaks Hospital at the age of 85 years. Sophie was born on September 5, 1925 in Poland and came to Canada at a very young age. She grew up in Brandon where she met her husband while he was on leave from the Army. They were married on November 16, 1946 and moved to Winnipeg. Sophie worked for the Bank of Nova Scotia in Winnipeg until she retired. She was a member of the Polish National Catholic Church all of her life. After retiring Sophie enjoyed traveling, going to the Casino, spending time with friends and family. Spending time with her grandson Christopher for the past 11 years has brightened her days. Sophie will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Joanne, son Joseph (Monique) and precious grandson Christopher Wasowicz. Left to mourn one brother Joseph (Helen) Slomiany of Brandon; niece Wanda (Michaelangello) Bryant of Brandon; nephew Wally (Jenny); great-nephews and niece Benjamin, Jeremy and Claire Slomiany of Brandon, sister-in-law Marilyn Wasowicz and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Stanley; parents Walter and Nellie Slomiany of Brandon, baby nephew Leonard Slomiany of Brandon and brother-in-law Gene Wasowicz. Prayers will be held on Thursday, December 30 at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, December 31 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Polish National Catholic Church, 361 Burrows Ave., with Very Rev. Msgr. W. Cwieka officiating. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Polish National Cemetery. Special thanks to the paramedics, Seven Oaks General Hospital staff, Dr. D. M. Miller, Dr. D. Jensen for all their efforts and to all the care workers from W.R.H.A. Home Care for all the support over the past few years. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Sophie's memory to the Parkinson's Society, CancerCare Manitoba, Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba or a charity of one's choice.
