THELMA SCHICK (nee PISCHKE) March 1, 1914 - December 15, 2010 After a brief, acute illness Thelma passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 15, 2010 at the Health Sciences Centre. She was 96 years old. She was predeceased by her husband Theodore (Ted) in 1967, her parents and her 10 siblings. She will be lovingly remembered and her memory cherished by her daughters Carol (Paul) Galbraith, Winnipeg; Beverley (Doug) Bowen, Victoria, BC and her grandchildren Tracey Bowen, Victoria, BC and Geoffrey Bowen, Bella Coola, BC. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Jean Pischke, Delta, BC and numerous nieces and nephews and their families. Thelma was born in Moosehorn, Manitoba, the sixth child in a family of 11 children. She moved to Winnipeg at a young age where she lived until her death. She worked in the Housekeeping Department at the Winnipeg General Hospital from 1931-1945 where she became supervisor of the department. She married Ted Schick in May 1943. After the birth of her daughters she remained at home until they were both in school. She then returned to work at the Great West Life Assurance Company from 1959 until her retirement in 1979. Loving, independent, gracious and kind, generous and thankful are just a few of the qualities which defined the way she lived her life. Cremation has taken place according to her wishes. A memorial service and celebration of her life will take place on Monday, January 3, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Thomson Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of one's choice.
