E. MARJORIE STEER (nee ROUSE) It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Marge Steer on Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at Grace Hospital, Winnipeg after a lengthy illness at the age of 84 years. She passed peacefully surrounded by the strength and love of her family. Remaining to forever cherish Marge's memory will be her devoted husband of 59 years of marriage, Harold; daughters, Betty-Ann (Doug) and Donna-Lee (Randy); grand-children, Ian, Kimberlee and Daniel; great-grandchildren, Christopher, Cory-Lee and Kylee. She will also be missed by David and Gary Tiltman and many friends and relatives who shared her life. Marge was born to Gilbert and Nona Rouse (Barager) and grew up in Brandon, Manitoba. During her early years of employment, she worked for the Imperial Bank of Canada and as secretary to the Collector of Customs. She met Harold through a mutual friend. They patiently waited through a three year courtship before permission to marry was granted from Harold's employer, the RCMP, which, at that time, had a five year of service policy. They were married in 1951. After being stationed in several rural communities in Manitoba, their final transfer was to Winnipeg in 1966. An independent thinker, Marge had a sharp business sense and a lifelong enjoyment of the world of finance. However, she chose to stay home and made her family the main focus of her life. While raising her daughters, Marge volunteered her time to various organizations including the Anglican Church, Girl Guides and various figure skating clubs. She was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, St. James branch. While still in good health, Marge loved needlework, knitting and crafting many pieces which have become cherished family heirlooms. She enjoyed entertaining family and friends. She looked forward to going out with Harold to the dinners with their friends known as Ev's people'. Although unable to travel in recent years, Marge and Harold enjoyed spending time away from Winnipeg winters. One special trip was to eastern Canada and the north eastern United States. Marge's greatest treasures and legacy have been her family. Our Mom had dignity and grace with strong values; never judging, always supporting, guiding and celebrating each of our achievements in life. Her generosity and spirit have been instilled in our family. She will be greatly missed. In compliance with Marge's request, there will be no funeral service. Interment will be held this summer in the Rosewood Cemetery, Brandon, Manitoba. It is with deep gratitude that we thank all the nurses, support staff and doctors at Grace Hospital ICU and 3 North, for their compassionate and exemplary care of Mom. In lieu of flowers, donations would be welcome in Marge's memory to the Salvation Army, 203-290 Vaughan Street, Winnipeg, MB R3B 2N8 or a charity of your choice.
