John was predeceased by his wife Gladys, December 1, 1998, parents Ben and Anna Laskowsky and sisters, Katie Siwak, Lilian Duchminsky, Elsie Pavlik and Josephine (Jessie) Paraschuk. He will be sadly missed by his son Gordon, daughter-in-law Joan, granddaughter Brittany, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. John was born on October 20, 1915 in Rossburn, MB and married Gladys Penonzek in 1943. Upon moving to Winnipeg, he was employed with Globelite Battery for 17 years. John also had a passion for music - playing violin, cymbaly, guitar, banjo and harmonica. Starting at an early age, he played at many weddings and other social functions. This passion lasted well into his later years where he could still be seen playing at various Senior Centres. Other musical highlights included weekly jam-sessions at Orest's Barber Shop and the many house parties at the home of friends Peter and Marie Kowal. In 2004, John moved to Holy Family Home where he became very content. He enjoyed the interaction with staff members, with a special mention to Teresa. Our family is grateful for the wonderful care and compassion provided to him. John also enjoyed the visits from his nephew Mickey and wife Jean Paraschuk, niece Phyllis and husband Wally Psooy, and special friends Orest Shydlowsky, Joe Wozlowski and Nestor Sandul. Thank you all for taking the time. The visits meant a lot to him. Cremation has taken place. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated in his memory 10:00 a.m., Monday, January 3, 2011 at St. Joseph's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 250 Jefferson Ave. with Fr. Bohdan Lukie, C.Ss.R. officiating.
