CHARLES FREDERICK PUTTENHAM Peacefully on December 25th, 2010 at the Concordia Hospital, Charles Frederick Puttenham passed away at the age of 70 years. Born September 23, 1940 in Kingston, Ontario, he was predeceased by his parents, Dorothy Grace in October 1964 and Stephen in June 1984. Chuck was the youngest child and is survived by his sisters Mary (Ed) Taugher of Wolfe Island, Ontario and Dorothy Jane (Mario) Popazzi of Kingston, Ontario. Chuck is remembered by five nieces and nephews. Chuck is survived by his loving wife Irene and seven children. His son Richard (Diane) and his daughter Felicia (John Paul) Grebenc, as well as Irene's children: Sherry (Doug) Eyres, Pam (Terry) Anderson, Derek (Cindy) Whyte, Robert (Bev) Whyte, Scott Whyte, and Maria Whyte. Chuck is remembered and survived by four grandchildren: Sydney and Andrew Puttenham, and Katherine and Jocelyn Grebenc; 12 step- grandchildren: Michael (Dawn) Anderson, Lyle (Lisa) Anderson, Trevor and Tyler Eyres, Venesa Whyte, Justin (Kaytlin) Whyte, Eric (Kristin) Whyte, Jerrid Whyte, Ryan and Kyla Whyte, and Dylan and Brennan Whyte, as well as five step-great-grandchildren: Mackenzie and Abigail Whyte, Nathaniel and Mikaela Anderson, and Kashton Whyte. Chuck is also survived by his first wife and mother to his children Alice (nee Baytaluk). Chuck joined the military as a boy soldier at the age of 16 and was shipped from his hometown of Lansdowne, Ontario to Shilo Manitoba. After serving seven years with the 2nd Royal Canadian Horse Artillery Regiment, he attended Manitoba Institute of Technology (now Red River College) to become a stationary engineer (power engineer). Upon graduation he worked for Winnipeg Hydro at the Amy Street Steam Plant until 1965 when he went to work for the City of Winnipeg. Chuck retired from the City, as the Supervisor of Mechanical Services in 1995 after 30 years of service. Chuck joined the Institute of Power Engineers in May 1969, serving 41 years on all national and branch positions. After retirement, Chuck continued his involvement with the Power Engineers by first auditing courses then briefly accepting a position as instructor at Red River College Power Engineering program. In later years Chuck became the caretaker for the Immanuel United Church. He and Irene took great pleasure in volunteering at the annual Fall Supper and the Dessert Theatre. Chuck was an avid golfer and enjoyed travelling. He and Irene had travelled from coast to coast, from Newfoundland to Victoria, B.C. He joined the City of Winnipeg Retirees Association and served on the Special Events committee along with Irene. Chuck was a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather. He will be dearly missed by all his family and friends. A special thank you goes to Dr. Paul Sawchuck and Dr. Patel at Concordia Hospital, Dr. H. Unrah, Dr. J. Johnston at HSC Cancer Care, and Dr. A. Maksymiuk, CancerCare Manitoba. Chuck's memorial service will be held at Immanuel United Church, 755 Golspie Street at Kimberley Avenue, 11:30 a.m. Monday, January 3rd, 2011. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to CancerCare Manitoba, Manitoba Lung Association, Immanuel United Church or a charity of your choice in Chuck's name.
