JOHN (HANS) GERHARD PENNER July 12, 1924 - December 30, 2010 With great sadness we announce the sudden passing of our dear husband, father and grandfather. John was born July 12, 1924 and came to Canada, from Katharinantal in the Ukraine in 1948 (after active duty in the Second World War), looking for a better life. Here, he was reunified with his mother and sisters, who had made the journey to Canada earlier. Settling first in Steinbach and later in Winnipeg, John worked hard to support his family. He saved and planned for years, working as a carpenter, before being able to fulfill his dream of building his own home. He leaves behind his wife Anneliese, children Janyce, Ruth with Christian, Rainer with Gina, as well as his grandchildren Lukas and Svenja. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation and deep gratitude to the staff at Bethania Mennonite Nursing Home for giving our father a home away from home. Funeral service will be held at Bethania Mennonite Personal Care Home Thursday, January 6, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. with reception to follow, and a private family interment will take place.
