Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHENRY LOEWEN 1926 - 2011 It is with great sadness the family of Henry Loewen announces his passing on the morning of January 1, 2011 with his family by his side. Henry was born on March 3, 1926 in Franzfeld, Ukraine to Julius and Elisabeth Loewen. Dad served in the German Army during the Second World War, and was a prisoner of war for five years. Henry immigrated to Canada in 1950 and settled in Winnipeg, where he met and married Elisabeth Pankratz in 1952 and raised four children. Henry was a master custom home builder. Dad was extremely proud of the numerous unique homes he built with passion and precision. He was a great outdoors man who enjoyed his annual fishing and hunting trips. Summers were spent camping at West Hawk and his cabin at Ingolf with his family and friends. Dad enjoyed travelling and Hawaii became his favourite winter destination. Henry fought intensely against the effects of Alzheimers and the family appreciates the care Dad received by the staff at Holy Family Care Home. Henry was predeceased by his father, mother, stepfather, his brothers: Victor and Hans and sisters: Lisel, Rita and Elizabeth. He is survived by his children: Victor, Rita (Ervin), Karl (Laurie) and Elizabeth/Betty, his seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his beloved Dori Kukat and her family; his brother, Willi (Mary) and brother, John (Sandy), stepsisters, Herta (Jake) and Frieda, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation/viewing will be held at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, January 6 at Friends Funeral Service, 2146 Main St. Funeral Service will be held Friday, January 7 at 10:30 a.m. at Sargent Avenue Mennonite Church, 926 Garfield St. Interment will follow at the Sargent Avenue Mennonite Church Cemetery in Springstein, MB. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Henry's memory to the Alzheimer Society, CancerCare Manitoba or the Mennonite Central Committee.
