Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDIXON (DICK) CARMICHAEL July 25, 1934 - January 1, 2011 With deep sadness we announce the unexpected passing of Dixon Carmichael, at age 76, at the Grace Hospital in Winnipeg with his family at his side. Dixon is survived by his wife Marian, two sons Bruce (Kim) and Rowan (Cindy), their mother Jan, stepchildren Ross (Sharon), Dwight (Alison), Sarah (Jeff) and Annette (Angie), and nine grandchildren - Jordan, Alyssa, Victoria, Evan and Connor Carmichael and Christian, Carly, Crystal and Jordan Manning. He will also be deeply missed by his brother Terry (Loraine) and nephews Duncan and Ian (Stephanie) Carmichael and Glen and Andrew McEwen. Dixon was predeceased by his parents George and May Carmichael, sister Nancy McEwen, and nephew Duncan McEwen. Dixon was born in Kenora, ON where he attended North Ward School and Kenora District High School. Football, basketball, track and field, and unending chess and pool tournaments were his passions. He began his working career with the Canadian Indemnity Co. in Winnipeg as a property insurance underwriter and later as a casualty insurance underwriter. Dixon then joined the Prudential Assurance Co. as the Branch Manager. Dixon later moved to Edmonton as the Branch Manager of the General Accident Assurance Company. He was both an Associate and Fellow of the Canadian Insurance Institute of Canada, and was well known, respected, and liked by his industry peers. He had an insatiable delight in travel, cruises, and holidaying at Lake of the Woods in Kenora where his family congregated for so many wonderful years of memorable occasions. He was an avid reader, lover of music, history, and anything that flew. He will always be remembered as a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, friend, and as a man of great character who easily made lifelong friends. Dixon will remain in our hearts forever. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 8 at 2:00 p.m at St. Paul's United Church, 11526-76 Ave., Edmonton, AB T6G 0K7. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Paul's United Church Memorial Fund or the Cross Cancer Institute.

I was hired as a marketing representative by Dick for Prudential Assurance in Winnipeg. He was responsible for my transfer to the Calgary branch later on. I don't know if anyone will read this at such a late date. I did not know he had passed away until today May 9 2012. He was such pleasure to work for and funny. I knew he had moved to Edmonton and retired there. I had no further contact with him but I would hear from others occasionally about Dick. I was so sorry to find out that he is gone. I just wanted his family to know that I thought he was an exceptional administrator and a kind and thoughtful individual. He was a good man and I am sure a great loss to his extended family and friends and associates. - Posted by: Jake Lutz (Prior employee at Prudential Assurance.
