STEPHAN (STEVE) TARASCHUK July 29, 1924 - December 24, 2010 It's with heavy hearts that we announce and say good-bye to our Dad and Gigi, Steve Taraschuk at the age of 86 of Arborg, MB. Dad was born on the family farm in Sky Lake, MB on July 29, 1924. On March 31, 1951, our Dad married the light of his life our Mom (Mary Konefal) and they were married for 56 years. Our parents farmed until 1974 when they sold the farm and retired to Silver, MB. Our parents worked hard on our mixed farm always side by side with their children on the sidelines and without hydro or running water in the 1950s and early 1960s, it wasn't easy. Dad was a good mechanic and welder and had run a small saw mill on the farm. In 2005 our parents moved to Arborg, MB, they always enjoyed spending time together. Our parents enjoyed fishing, bicycling and bird watching, they enjoyed the beauty of nature and took many day trips around the Interlake looking for wild flowers, baby ducks or geese, dad always carried his camera with him. Hecla Island was their favourite spot, they'd always pack a lunch of salmon or sardine sandwiches with onions, a few bars and hot coffee. One of our dad's favourite pastimes was playing his violin and guitar, he'd play to all who came by. Dad loved to cook and would feed all who came to visit even if you just ate. After our mom passed away dad had a hard time, he didn't know how to live alone so he'd cook up a storm and ask you to come over and feed you. Dad endured much but was always true to his Christian faith as one of Jehovah's Witnesses, sharing the hope of blessings of God's Kingdom on earth. Rev. 21-1-5. Dad was predeceased by his parents Theodore (Fred) and Josephine, brother Stephan and sisters Kathleen, Ann and Stella and our dear mom (Mary) in 2007 and our sister Geraldine in 2010. Dad is survived by his sisters, Olive, Natalie and Mary and their families. Our dad will especially be missed and always treasured by his children and our families: Shirley (Garry) Meyer, Sharon (Brian) Boundy, Louise (Johnny) Karatchuk, Beverley Karatchuk (Bob), Douglas (Chrystal) Taraschuk, Wayne (Cindy) Taraschuk, son-in-law Robert Green; ten grandchildren and their spouses, and special family friend Willie Sinclair. Cremation has taken place. Our dad will be buried beside our mom his honey bunch in the Arborg Cemetery west of Arborg, MB. We would like to say a big Thank-you to Dr. Donnelly and all the nurses and care givers who cared for Dad and to all who took time out of their busy days to drop by and say hello and give dad a hug or two and for sharing a coffee, lunch and a chat with dad, he really appreciated it. We want to thank the Arborg (MacKenzie) Funeral Home for their help and guidance.
