JOHN FRANCIS REILLY CD. 1930 - 2011 It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our dear Father, Grandfather John Francis Reilly on Saturday, January 1, 2011 with family at his side. John was predeceased by his son Robert Richard in 1960 and daughter Glenda Colleen (Yogi) in 1973. Left to cherish his memory are his best friend and companion Chopper, his children, John Reilly (Darlene), John Adams (Sharon), Ricky Nocei (Mike), Andy Reilly (Wendy), Fern Wyspianski (Ron), Francie Reilly, JoJo Reilly (Kevin), Daniel Reilly, Timothy Reilly. Grandpa also leaves 17 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. John served with the Canadian Armed Forces (as a Weapons Technician, RCEME) from, December 12, 1947 - March 19, 1974. During this time he proudly served in the Korean War. John also served continuously with the Canadian Armed Forces Primary Reserve (Land Reserve) from, April 10, 1975 until honorably released on October 23, 1982. After he left the Army, he worked at Gateway Papers till his retirement, after which he dedicated his time to his dogs, and volunteer work. John was an active/long time member of the Korean Veterans Association, Unit 17, where he proudly cared for the Cenotaph at Brookside Cemetery, along with many other important projects. He was also a member of The United Nations Peace Keeping Association, The Senior N.C.O. Association. As well, John was a Lifetime Member and Past President/Honorary President of The Royal Canadian Legion #1 Branch. Dad was a man of honor and principle, with an incredible sense of humour. He was a kind, gentle, and generous man, to family, friends, and neighbours. The family extends thank you and appreciation to the health care staff on 4H at Health Sciences Centre as well as Dr. Leylek at Cancer Care. Funeral services will be held at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre (across from Brookside Cemetery), at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 10, 2011.
