FLORENCE ELIZABETH FULTZ (HEARD) Born in Truro, Nova Scotia, on September 10, 1918, to Colonel O.G. and Mrs. Catherine Renew Heard (Doggett). She experienced a golden childhood there with her many close friends and never lost touch with most of them, or her maritime roots. Florence won the Governor General's Medal for French at Colchester County High School and attended Mount Allison University. She had a lifelong love of education and the proper use of the English language, and passed that along to her two sons, and to all of her grandchildren. She met her late husband, Rupert R. Fultz, who was from Winnipeg, while he was training near Truro before going overseas with the Royal Winnipeg Rifles in the Second World War. During the War, Florence worked with a service organization, the International Order of the Daughters of the Empire, to supply Canadian soldiers with packages from home. After the War, she married Rupert, (then a Major) and moved to beautiful Wildwood Park with him, where they started a family and several successful businesses. For many years, Florence was Rupert's partner in business, as well as in life. They loved both the Fort Garry area, and their cottage at Matlock, where they enjoyed many fine friendships. She gave of her time in service and became a Provincial Regent of the I.O.D.E. and held many positions with St. Paul's Anglican Church. Florence is survived by her two sons, Christopher and Timothy, her two daughters-in-law, Mary and Nancy, and her four grandchildren, Jennifer, Joanna, Benjamin and Megan. Florence passed away peacefully on New Year's Day, 2011, at Riverview Health Centre, 1 Morley Avenue, Winnipeg, R3L 2P4, where there will be a memorial service on Friday, January 14, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel, followed by refreshments in the Thomas Sill Auditorium. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Cycle of Life at Riverview Health Centre. Florence was loved and will always be deeply missed by her family, who will forever remember her great spirit, her determined will, and her tremendous integrity in all things.
