OCTAVE LAPLANTE It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Octave Joseph Noe Laplante who passed on to join The Lord in the comfort of his own home on January 1, 2011 at the age of 68 years. He was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Adele; brothers Lloyd Allard, Lucien Laplante and Antoine McKay; sisters Marie Rempel, Olivine Beach, Silvia Runions, Georgeline Hebert and Mary Ducharme. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Fern; brother Phillip Laplante; sisters Jeannette McKay and Pearl Belcourt; children Darren, Darryl, Debbie and Darlene; uncle Joe Allard and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Octave was born and raised in Saint Eustache, Manitoba. In his late teens he moved to Winnipeg to search for work. He started out in the carwash business until he found work in the construction field. He continued in construction for many years. Octave loved fishing, gardening, long drives, shuffleboard (winning many trophies) and card-games (especially cribbage). He also enjoyed talking to people and helping them in any way he was able. He cut grass, shoveled snow and provided many other services to his friends and neighbours. He was happiest when he was helping others. Most of all he had a great faith in The Lord. In tears we saw you sinking, We watched you fade away, You suffered much in silence, You fought so hard to stay. You faced your task with courage, Your spirit did not bend, But still you kept on fighting Until the very end. God saw you getting tired, When a cure was not to be, So He put His arms around you, And whispered, Come to Me . So when we saw you sleeping So peaceful, free from pain, We could not wish you back, To suffer that again. Your smile is gone forever, And your hands we cannot touch, Still we have so many memories, Of the one we loved so much. Your memory is our keepsake, With which we'll never part. God has you in His keeping, And we have you in our hearts. Octave will be sadly missed by his wife Fern, his family and friends. Many thanks to all who gave their help and support. There will be a celebration of his life on January 14, 2011 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion, 1613 Logan Avenue.
