She died peacefully in her sleep at Grace Hospital on the morning of January 5, 2011 at the age of 88. Hilde was predeceased by her brother Kurt and sister Inge of Germany. Hilde was born in Wietstock, Germany on September 21, 1922 to Helene and Ernst Pagel. She lived through the Second World War and endured many hardships. Hilde met Bill in 1948 and they immigrated to Canada in 1955 to seek a better life. They first settled in Bissett, MB and moved to Winnipeg in 1959. Hilde loved her beautiful home in Charleswood and hosted many family gatherings. She was renowned for her fantastic German dishes! She took pride in her flowers - especially the geraniums at the front entrance where she and Bill spent summer evenings relaxing with a puzzle or newspaper. She was a devoted mother and wife, and also worked for many years at the Garden Court restaurant at Eaton's Polo Park. Upon retirement she surprised everyone by taking up golf. In 2007 she and Bill moved to Lindenwood Terrace where they made many friends. Hilde loved her family and had a close bond with each of her children. She loved music and loved to dance! She had a kind, generous and fun-loving spirit and will be greatly missed. A funeral service will take place on Tuesday, January 11, 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 65 Walnut Street. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations in Hildegard's name may be made to the Salvation Army or St. Peter's Lutheran Church. NEIL BARDAL INC. FUNERAL CENTRE (204) 949-2200 nbardal.mb.ca
