GEORGE GRENIER Under the Lord's watchful eye, 83 year old George Grenier died on Thursday, January 6, 2011. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Irène (nee Jungmann); his eight children and their spouses, Adrien (Claire), Donat (Lorraine), Annette (Claude), Louise (Cyrille), Maurice (Susan), Simone (émile), Lucien (Suzelle) and Alexandre (Evelyne), over 30 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, as well as his brothers and sisters, Joseph (Rolande) Grenier, Paul (friend Florence) Grenier, Hubert (Stella) Grenier, Rosaire (friend Jeanette) Grenier, Norbert (Loraine) Grenier, Alphonsine Mondor, Alexandrine (Robert) Gérardy, Laurette Fontaine, Esther (Louis) Gagnon, Denise (Adelard) Tourond; his brother-in-law Denis Comeault; as well as his sister-in-law Phyllis Jungmann. George had always emphasized the importance of family and he did so through his actions by truly making it a way of life. Family worked hard together, but even more, family played hard together. Farmer and lumberjack by trade, George would spend much of his time playing baseball, a sport which he had grown to adore. But his true love was not the sport, but a hard-working and loving woman, Irene, whom he married on May 27, 1952. Simply put, George loved life and this was easily demonstrated by the music forged in his heart. Constantly singing, he would fill the silences in the Grenier home with a tune and has since passed on his love of music to his family. It is with a heavy heart that we bid adieu to George, dad, pépère. May the echo of your songs remain in our heads and in our hearts. The Grenier family would like to thank the staff at Ste. Anne Hospital for their hard work and their compassion during this trying time, as well as Birchwood Funeral Chapel for their services. Prayers will take place on Tuesday, January 11 at 7:00 p.m. at the Birchwood Funeral Chapel in Steinbach (150 Penfeld Drive). A celebration of George's life will take place the following day, Wednesday, January 12 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Joachim Catholic Church in La Broquerie. The burial will take place shortly after in St. Labre Cemetery. The Grenier family would like to invite you to make a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. You may do so by calling (204) 949-2000.
