JOSEPH DLUGOSH Peacefully on January 6, 2011 Joseph Dlugosh passed away at Holy Family Home at the age of 84. He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years Zena, his son Wolodymyr (Marijka), grandchildren Ariadna and Taras, nephews Marvin (Sandra) and Yurko (Marta) Dlugosh and their families and niece Irene Jensen (Ken) and her family, sister-in-law Rose Dlugosh, in-law Alexandra Diakiw, brothers-in-law Paul (Eleanor), Henry (Iris) and Michael (Betty) Kolada and their families, as well as numerous relatives in Canada and Ukraine. Joseph was born on March 14, 1926 in the selo Dolyna, Lemkivschyna Ukraine to Stefan and Teophilia Dlugosz. He was the last surviving brother of his six siblings Yulia, Marijka, Stephan, Ivan, Myroslaw, Mykola. With the outbreak of the Second World War and the German occupation of Western Ukraine, Joseph was forced to labour in Austria. After the war, in 1948, Joseph immigrated to Canada on a working contract. He was employed with the Canadian Pacific Railway in 1949 and remained there until his retirement in 1986. In 1953 Joseph met and married Zena. Joseph and his wife had the opportunity to travel to Europe. The independence of Ukraine allowed him and his wife to visit their homeland on several occasions. Joseph was a member of Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church, a past member of the executive committee of the Canadian Ukrainian Institute Prosvita, the Ukrainian Youth Association (UYA) as well as a strong supporter of the local Ukrainian Canadian community. The family wishes to thank Most Rev. Michael Bzdel, C.Ss.R., Sister Darleane and the Sisters Servants of Mary Immaculate, Dr. T. Babick and the staff of Holy Family Home for their compassionate care. Prayers will be sung 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 11 at Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main St. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 12 at Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church, 965 Boyd Ave. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Holy Family Home or Canadian Ukrainian Institute Prosvita. VICHNAYA PAMYAT KORBAN FUNERAL CHAPEL 956-2193
