DONALD J. LEAR Peacefully and with family by his side, Donald J. Lear moved to his heavenly home on January 6, 2011. Don is with the Lord and we, the family, are relieved that his struggles are over. Don will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his beloved wife of 50 years Diane (nee Kohlmeier), and his children David (Andrea), Cyndi (Chris Tardi), and Brian (Rachel). His grandchildren Jordan, Danielle, and Laura Tardi and Adam and Jared Lear will miss their Papa. Don was born in Winnipeg on September 27, 1932. Growing up in Norwood and graduating from Glenlawn Collegiate, Don had many fond memories of his early years. Most of Don's career was spent with IBM. During retirement, Don had an opportunity to spend more time doing his favourite things - tinkering on home equipment and working on cars. He so enjoyed volunteer construction at Trinity Television, time with the breakfast club boys and music. Don loved music, particularly Big Band music and enjoyed listening to CJNU Nostalgia Radio. Later in life Don picked up his trumpet again and enjoyed being part of his own big band . Don will always be remembered as a jokester, great sport and a good friend. We, his family, wish to extend our thanks and admiration to all the staff at Riverview Health Centre and especially the support and dedication of the staff on B2. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, donation in Don's memory may be made to Riverview Health Centre, 1 Morley Avenue, Winnipeg, MB, R3L 2P4. A memorial service will be held on Monday, January 10 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel at Riverview Health Centre, 1 Morley Avenue, Winnipeg, MB.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Dear Diane and Family, I have many, many fond memories of Don. The most important to me is the toast he made to me at my wedding. Articulate and humorus as always, it was lovely. He ended the toast by asking my mom, Lila, to give him the recipe for the punch so that he could burn it. Stories of the old days are dear to dad, Cal, and I never get tired of them. There is nothing like old dear friends. Thank you for honoring Cal's lifelong friendship with Don. Cathy Jackson - Posted by: Cathy jackson (Friend) on: Jan 10, 2011
