MARIA MALIZIA (nee D'Ottavio) May 7, 1944 - January 4, 2011 It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved wife, mother and nonna Maria Malizia at her home on Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at the age of 66 years. She will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by her husband Pietro of 46 years, her beloved daughters Grazia and Gloria and her boys her sons-in-law Petr and John. She was a special nonna to her three precious granddaughters Alessia, Alena and Daniela who loved her so very much. Also left to cherish her memory are her mother, Guiseppina D'Ottavio, her brothers, Cesare (Heidi), Querino (Maria), Vittorio (Dora), Fernando (Gail), Nello (Karen) and her sisters Silvia (Raffaele Garofalo) and Gina D'Ottavio and many nieces, nephews, family and friends in Winnipeg and in Italy. She was predeceased by her father Michele D'Ottavio and her infant sister Carolina. Our mom was born in Crognaleto, Teramo, Italy and came to Canada with her family in 1957. She married Pietro in 1963 and together they raised their two daughters. After retiring from Monarch Industries, she spent many happy hours in her garden where she grew the most beautiful vegetables and flowers. She loved going to Italy for the winter with our father and had many joyous hours walking, cooking and visiting with our family and friends in Monterotondo. One of her favourite pastimes at home was going shopping and going for walks with her sister Silvia and the two shared many happy hours together. Our mom was a kind, gentle woman with a peaceful strength, whose greatest joy was her family. She cherished our times together and we will never forget the many wonderful meals she lovingly made for us. She was a fabulous cook. Her granddaughters meant the world to her and they each had their own special name for her. She was Alessia's nonna, Alena's nana and Daniela's nonni. She spent many happy hours with them in her beautiful garden, reading to them, cooking with them and attending all their dance and piano recitals and school events. God truly blessed our lives when he gave us such a wonderful mother. It is impossible to put into words how much she meant to us all and how much we will miss her; especially our dear father, they were always together. Funeral mass will be celebrated at Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church on Wednesday, January 12, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation starting one hour prior to mass, with Father Vincent Tchaoule officiating. Interment to follow at Holy Angels Mausoleum at Green Acres Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined. If so desired, donations in our mom's memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
