MARY SAWCHUK (nee MAGURA) Peacefully, on Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at the Kildonan Personal Care Centre with her family by her side, Mary passed away at the age of 93. Mary was predeceased by an infant son; by her husband Harry (1990); by her daughter-in-law Irene; by sisters, Annie (Steve Ruta), Rose (George Swaluk), Nellie (Stan Morowski); and brothers, Mike (Adeline), John (Stella) and Walter (Iris). Mary is lovingly remembered by her son Wesley, granddaughter Gwen (Brian Davisson), great-granddaughter Alysha, grandson Jeff (Lorene); by her daughter Wilma (Don Sparkes), grandson Ryan, granddaughter Karen (Chad Scarsbrook) and great-granddaughter Julia; by sisters-in-law, Iris Magura, Marge Sawchuk and Olga Luby, as well as many nieces and nephews. Mary was born November 14, 1917 to Peter and Helen Magura on a farm in the Melrose area of Manitoba. On July 13, 1937 she married Harry. She worked hard on their farm in the Cloverleaf area and she was especially proud of her huge and productive garden. Every summer she would preserve many jars of pickles, jams, fruits and vegetables. After farming for 45 years, Mary and Harry retired to Winnipeg. In 1987 they celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary with family and friends. Mary cherished the memories made that day. Mary took an interest in what was going on in the world. She enjoyed watching the news and reading the newspaper. The Oprah Show was one of her television favourites. Mary loved to sing. She was a crafty card player. She enjoyed a good joke and we will miss her laughter. In 2004, Mary moved into the Kildonan Personal Care Centre where she received excellent and loving care right to the end. Many thanks to the dedicated and compassionate staff there for taking care of Mary during her declining years. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 10 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Michael's (Ukrainian Catholic) Church, 400 Day Street, Transcona. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice. Knysh Funeral Chapel of Winnipeg in charge of arrangements. Phone 582-0973 or 1-855-569-743. www.knyshfuneralchapel.com
