JOHN ALBERT MAURICE EDELSON June 1, 1917 January 13, 2011 After a two year struggle with a major stroke, John has left us to be with his saviour Jesus Christ. He will be sadly missed by his many friends and family. John was born in Winnipeg, MB on June 1, 1917. He served in the R.C.A.F. from 1940 to 1946 and was a P.O.W. from 1943 to 1945. He moved to Calgary in 1954 with Stephens Paint Ltd. and was later associated with the Investors Group in Calgary from 1960 to 1980. John was a member of The Calgary Golf and Country Club, The Glencoe Club, Al Azhar Shrine Temple, Foothills Lodge No. 174, ex R.C.A.F. Prisoners of War Association, Aircrew Association, Wartime Pilots and Observers Association, Nanton Lancaster Society and the Conservative Party of Canada. John was an outstanding athlete and worked out daily until his latest illness. Swimming was his most recent passion. He is survived by his brother Donald of Winnipeg, MB, nieces Heather Payne of Gimli, MB and Marilyn Tomimoto of Calgary, Jennifer Calihan of Pittsburgh, PA and nephews Donald (Cathy) and Davis (Fay) Whitehead all of Calgary and John Gates of San Fransciso, CA. He was predeceased by his parents, Maurice in 1975 and Margaret in 1968, his most beloved wife Lois Irene Mae Lean in 1984 and his sister Marnie Clarke Cook in 1985. Cremation has taken place and a private Celebration of John's Life will be held at a later date.
