ALICE MORRISSEY (LAMBERT) April 30, 1923 January 12, 2011 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and friend, Alice Morrissey. Alice was born in St. Boniface, the sixth child of Dr. Charles and Henrietta Lambert. She was a member of a loving, close knit family and was predeceased by her parents, her three brothers (Peter, Jacque, Babe), her two sisters (Yvette and Bertha) as well as her niece (Bertha). Alice was also predeceased by her husband, Joseph, to whom she was happily married for 21 years until his passing in 1971. From early childhood Alice demonstrated a great talent for music and was a successful musician, performer and teacher for most of her life. Alice started Morrissey's Music Studio in 1970 and continued to teach budding pianists and guitarists until she was almost 80 years old. Many of Alice's students developed a lifelong love of music and continued to keep in touch with her for years after their lessons had ended. Those students, along with those who went on to receive recognition in the musical field, were a great source of pride for her. People who knew Alice will always remember her for her spirit, independence, intelligence and sense of humour. Alice was a kind woman who loved animals, going to her cottage at Lake Manitoba and playing Canasta. She was a loving mother to her daughter, JoAnn (Brian) and her granddaughter, Breanne, who will greatly miss her. She will also be remembered by the many family friends and neighbours who have been so supportive throughout her life and particularly in recent months. The family would like to thank Dr. David Breckman and his staff for the exceptional care they have provided to our mother. We would also like to extend thanks to Dr. Joshua, Dr. George and many of the staff of the Grace Hospital for their involvement in the past month. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Winnipeg Pet Rescue Shelter, 3062 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R3K 0Y1 or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of MB, Suite 200 - 6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB, R3L 0K6. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 20 at 11:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., Winnipeg. Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Hi, Alice and Joe were our next door neighbors for many years. Alice taught me guitar and probably was the best teacher of anything including public school I ever experienced. She was, I recollect, an outstanding guitar and steel guitar musician I had ever met. Going to her weekly lessons on Madison Street, St. James, was easy. I just had to hop the fence and ring her door bell. I love that lady and have thought of her and Joe and her Sister-in-Law Ann (Joe's Sister) and Brother-in Law 'Ozzie' many times through the years. Nobody could have wished for better neighbors or friends! - Posted by: Jim McGowan (Friend and neighbor) on: Jun 01, 2021

  • Music is a significant part of who I am, and I will never forget Alice. She was my first, (and only formal,) guitar teacher. I remember that she told me she taught members of the Crash Test Dummies, which I must admit inspired a feeling of prestige. I felt honoured to be learning from someone that so clearly radiated a love for music and passing the skill on to others. A few summers back I was fortunate enough to have one of my songs played on the radio here in Winnipeg, and I was thinking of her generous guidance that night. Tonight I have spent practising on my guitar and I found her on my mind, so I searched the internet to see if I could find her. Indeed I did, and I am happy to see that she lived a long and fulfilling life. I will always remember her welcoming home; the basement full of instruments. And I will especially remember the way she encouraged me to learn based on my own strengths and interests. She was always kind and nurturing in her lessons and I felt that I was learning more than just and instrument in a teacher's room; she was offering her gift of music to an inspired enthusiast. My warmest regards to the family, and I hope you are all well. - Posted by: Lyle Mustard (Music Student) on: Jan 05, 2016
