ROLAND BIENER Peacefully on January 10, 2011 after a brief illness, Roland passed away at the age of 85 years at the Seven Oaks Hospital. Roland is the beloved husband of 62 years to Mable Dawn. He is also survived by his children Lee (Larry), Harvey (Wendy) and Nadene (Bryan); as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, brother Hal (Eileen), sister Anne; brother Fred and brother Bill, and extended family members and friends. Roland was predeceased by his brother Wally. He served in the Navy during the Second World War. Upon his return he worked in brass and steel foundries where he retired after 27 years from Griffin Steel. In his retirement he went on to volunteer countless hours of community service with the Lions Club of Canada. He served for several years as President of the Charleswood Lions Club. His passion for animals led him to also offer many hours in support of Canine Vision Canada. Roland was also proud to support the Winnipeg Humane Society. He was an avid golfer and bowled for many years during his retirement. The family would like to thank the staff at Parkview Place and Seven Oaks Hospital - 4th Floor, Unit 5 for the care and compassion shown to Roland. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB R3T 0R3 or the Alzheimer Society of Canada, Unit 10-120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2. Memorial service will be held on Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., Winnipeg.
