ANNA KABALUK (nee KOCHANOWSKI) Anna was born in Winnipeg on August 4, 1907, and died peacefully at Fred Douglas Lodge on January 12, 2011 in her 104th year. Though we mourn her death, we celebrate her long and productive life. Mom was predeceased by our dad, William, in 1991, her parents, three sisters and one brother. She is survived by her son Jim (Anne), granddaughter Donna (Kevin Tell), great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Madeleine Tell, all of Regina; grandson Todd Kabaluk of Harrison Hot Springs, BC and daughter Eileen (Jim Sawa) of Winnipeg. When mom was five the family moved from Winnipeg to Green Oak, MB where her mother died soon after. In her early teens, Mom left home for Winnipeg where she worked as a domestic and restaurant help. Eventually, she ended up at Broadview College in Illinois to pursue her education. She worked as a colporteur and domestic to finance this education. In 1927 she returned to Winnipeg to resume previous employment. In 1933 she married Dad, and, until they had their own place, he worked in bush camps and she returned to Winnipeg. Finally, they purchased a small parcel of land and built a two-room house, set up a dry goods store, and acquired some farm animals and poultry and a piano our home was never without a piano. Mom loved the farm above all else. Dad returned to the bush camp and Mom looked after the home, eventually adding two kids to the mix. In 1950 they moved to Lac Du Bonnet where they set up a business, which they ran for seven years. In 1957 they moved to Winnipeg. In 2002 Mom went to Fred Douglas Lodge where she remained until her death. Her deep faith had carried her through many adversities. We are grateful to the caregivers on Spruce Unit for the excellent care and kindness to Mom. We are also grateful to Wilfred and Ivy James for their many visits. Thank you, too, to Harriet and family for their friendship, and to Tillie for being a good neighbour. Funeral Service will take place on Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at The Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 1314 Henderson Hwy., at noon, officiated by Pastor Jeff Potts. Interment and reception will follow at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens, 4477 Main Street. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mom's memory may be made to Fred Douglas Lodge, 1275 Burrow Ave., Winnipeg, MB R2X 0B8, or to the Winnipeg Human Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB R3T 0R3, or to a charity of one's choosing.
