JUDITH ANNE BARLEY (nee SAWIAK) January 15, 1949 - January 9, 2011 Judie passed away at home with her loved ones by her side on January 9, 2011. She was predeceased by her father Paul, her mother Val and her sister Sherron. She is survived by her son Gareth (Laina), her grandson Beckett; her sister Paula, and her nephews Chris (Julia) Barley and his children, Bob Barley; and Jeff Horn. Born in Winnipeg, MB, Judie graduated from St. Boniface Hospital in 1970. She continued her career as a nurse in Winnipeg, Vancouver, and Calgary, and was instrumental in starting the first Lithotripsy Unit in Southern Alberta in 1989. She ended her career at Red Deer Regional Hospital shortly after her diagnosis with ALS. During her two-year battle with this disease, Judie demonstrated her passion for dogs by volunteering at the Humane Society. She was able to witness the birth of her grandson and travel to Mexico to be a part of her son's wedding. Judie also loved hockey and lacrosse where she was not afraid to cheer on a great play or let a ref know he blew a call. With respect to Judie's wishes there will not be a formal memorial service, however if friends so desire, donations may be made in Judie's name to the ALS Society.
