Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARJORIE HELGASON (nee Giles) Peacefully and with dignity, at the St. Boniface Hospital, on December 21, 2010, Marjorie succumbed to the disease that she had fought for the past six years. Marjorie was born in Manchester England in 1944, the eldest daughter of Tom and Marjorie Giles. Arriving in Canada in 1945, Marjorie first lived in British Columbia. Later, along with her family, she moved to Manitoba, settling on a farm in the Cromarty district west of Roblin. Marjorie attended school in Roblin and Winnipeg. Upon completion of high school she worked for the Royal Bank in Robin. Later she entered the Manitoba Teacher's College. Marjorie taught school in Winnipeg, Makaroff and Sandy Bay. Although she enjoyed teaching, Marjorie wanted to try other careers. With enthusiasm and vigor she had the opportunity to experience many different types of employment. However for the past 15 years she had what she felt was her most rewarding career with Service Canada. She made many friends there and felt she was blessed with the camaraderie she experienced. Marjorie had many interests, but politics, the economy, and the social welfare system were her favourites. Strong willed and often opinionated Marjorie's views were always clear. However, Marjorie not only talked the talk she walked the walk generously supporting and encouraging many different causes and organizations. Marjorie was also a great believer in recycling. Over the years she recycled faithfully. Nothing that had some further use was thrown away. It was recycled. As a resident of Fred Douglas Place, Marjorie took an active interest in events and social activities associated with the community and leaves behind many friends. She was also active with the Winnipeg Ostomy Association, the Canadian Institute for the Blind, and Knox United Church. Marjorie was predeceased by her parents Tom and Marge. She is survived by her sister Patricia, and brothers Bill and Alan, and her very special friend Al , as well as the families of many nieces, nephews, and cousins. At Marjorie's request there will be no funeral. A small memorial service will be held at a later date. If friends so desire a donation may be made to, Winnipeg Ostomy Association -Camp Fund 204 - 825 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3A 1M5 or the charity of your choice. The family wishes to express their thanks for the care and treatment Marjorie received from the Doctors and nurses at Cancer Care Manitoba and from the staff of the Palliative Care Unit at St. Boniface Hospital.
