Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryKATIE SOBOVITCH (nee WAKSHINSKY) October 1, 1918 January 14, 2011 Katie was predeceased by her husband Andrew (1998), son Larry (1992), daughter Geri, son-in-law Lorne Weir (2005). Katie is survived by her grandson Robert Weir (Shannon), granddaughter Toby, sister-in-law Judy Sobovitch, nieces, nephews and many friends. Katie was born on October 1, 1918. She married Andrew in 1937 and together they lived on a farm near Libau. In 1988 they sold the farm and moved to Selkirk where she resided five and a half years before moving to Winnipeg in 1994. Katie was an active member of St. Joseph's Polish Catholic Church in Libau. She performed duties as president, organized many dinners, made many dozen perogies and volunteered in other activities. Katie worked hard on the farm, milking cows, trapping and stretching muskrats' skins. Katie's hobbies were dancing, bowling, bingo and gardening. She loved to bake her favourite pumpkin loaf and molasses cookies. A special thank-you to the staff on the 8th floor at Beacon Hill Lodge for their wonderful care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, 200-310 Broadway, Winnipeg, MB R3C 9Z9, or to a charity of your choice. A graveside service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 20 at the St. Clements Cemetery in Selkirk, MB.
