ANNE KUPCHAK/WILCZYNSKA June 29, 1927 - January 16, 2011 It is with loving memories and sad hearts that we announce the passing of our dear, dear Mom, Grandma and Great-Grandma, with family by her side, at the Seven Oaks Hospital in Winnipeg on Sunday, January 16, 2011. Anne was born in a small village near the Western Ukrainian town of Rudki to parents, Polly and Joseph Wilczynski. She spoke of siblings: Rose, Mary, Katrina and Franko. During the Second World War, at the age of 15, Anne, like many of the young Ukrainian girls, was taken to Germany to work as a domestic for a German family in the city of Waltrop. She lost contact with all her family when she left Ukraine. After the war, many displaced people went to England to work in the mills in Liverpool and Littleborough. There she met her life long friends Hanya and Slawko Gaba. When they immigrated to Winnipeg, Mom soon followed. Here she met Dad, Basil Kupchak, and they began a life together farming and raising nine children. They lived outside Winnipeg, in Narol and later moved to East St. Paul. In the early 1970s Mom moved to Redwood Avenue in Winnipeg. Anne was a kind, tenderhearted, generous fun loving person who put others before herself. She cherished her children and her children's children. They were number one in her books. She could dance up a storm and she was always the belle of the ball. She was so beautiful, she made heads turn, even at 83. Her perogies and holopchi were the best in town. She took great pride in her garden and her house plants. She was never without a cat and made it her mission to dutifully feed the birds and feral cats in the neighbourhood every day. She will be missed by many on this earth. Left to cherish Mom's memory are her children: (Erika) Mary (Manfred), John, Patricia (Rolly), Darlene (Howie), Susan, Danny (Michelle), Robert (Nellie), Sandy (Paul) and grandchildren: Toshi, Tanya (Dustin), Patrick, Connor, Nicholas (Chantelle), Kristin, Jill, Zennon, Trisha, Tara, Dominic, Daniel, Christopher, Tyler, and great-grandchildren: Ben, Alexis, Dylan, Cassius, and Noah. Anne was predeceased by her husband, Basil (1999), beloved eldest son, Taras/Terry (1979), granddaughter Danielle (1982) and her lifelong friends Slawko and Hanya Gaba. Celebration of Anne's life will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 22, 2011 at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street, Winnipeg, MB. Interment and reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to D'Arcy's Animal Rescue Centre. Terry saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be. So he put his arms around you and whispered, come to me. With tearful eyes we watched you, and saw you pass away. Although we loved you dearly, we could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands at rest. It is true what folks say, God only takes the best. You're in our hearts forever mom. Glen Eden Funeral Home 338-7111 www.gleneden-mb.ca
