CHARLES SHAYE Charlie was reunited with his wife Rose as he peacefully passed away on Sunday, January 16, 2011 at the Red Deer Regional Hospital. Charlie was born in Winnipeg's North End before becoming a long time resident of East and North Kildonan (Roselawn Bay) before finally residing at Summerland in Fort Garry for the last 15 years. In each neighbourhood Charlie was a character that participated in activities, told tall stories and fed animals and friends alike. He always liked to sit and talk and was always grateful for the friends he and Rose made along the way. Charlie enjoyed his career in the hospitality industry. His career included managing the Royal Alexandra Hotel, Cara Operating, the Marlborough Hotel, Winnipeg Winter Club, Fort Garry Hotel and Glendale Country Club. In each job he made lifelong friends, and years after he retired he would still run into former employees and would remember their names and always had a story to share. Charlie was predeceased by his loving wife of 57 years, Rose and son Richard. He is survived by his children Doug and Valdene. He will be forever missed by Doug and Esther Shaye and Valdene and Shawn Callin, his grandchildren Michael (Rachel) and Melanie Shaye and Shaye Callin plus great-grandchildren Laura Rose and Jacob Shaye. The family would like to thank Noreen and Al Greenberg for their friendship and support for over 30 years. We are grateful to the staff at Red Deer Regional Hospital who made dad's last days as comfortable as possible. A big thank you goes out to all the family and friends who helped Charlie and Rose over the years. Your kindness and thoughtfulness will not be forgotten. In accordance with Charlie's wishes a private cremation has taken place. The family would like to invite you to come celebrate the memory of Charlie and Rose Shaye, their good spirit and many happy years with all of you on Saturday, February 12, at 2:00 p.m., at Chapel Lawn, Portage Avenue. In order for future generations to enjoy the stories and adventures of Charlie and Rose it is asked that a written memory be brought to the memorial to be put into a memory book for their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
