ARCHIBALD HENDERSON FISHER January 15, 1914 - December 12, 2010 It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful death of Archibald Henderson Fisher on December 12, 2010 in his 97th year at the Charleswood Care Centre, Winnipeg. Archie was born in Calgary and moved with his family back to their roots in Ontario. The first of five children, he graduated from Malvern Collegiate and the University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. Archie left to join The Company of Adventurers into Hudson Bay. He took up his first post in Vancouver, then on to Winnipeg, Toronto, back to Winnipeg, retiring after a Meritorious Career in his 40th year of employment. Archie was nicknamed the Doctor of Sick Departments. The monthly Eager Beaver award, an actual preserved beaver, was named Archie the Beaver as he won it so many times, and was retired with him. An avid golfer his entire life Archie encouraged all around him to join in. A teacher by example in all aspects of life as evidenced by his commitment to his family and the community, especially the Salvation Army, the Veterans, many Arts groups and small businesses. Just take it in waltz time - All you can do is your best - we have all learned to give. Archie was a member of Westwood Presbyterian Church, the Marine Drive Golf Course, St. Charles Country Club, The Masons, The Scottish Rite and The Shrine. Archie was predeceased by his beloved wife Mae, of 52 years, his parents Dr. Alexander and Nurse Sarah Fisher, his nephew David Fisher, his sister-in-law June Fisher, his sister Betty and Henry Roberts, and his brother Alex and Ruth Fisher. Left to miss him forever is his daughter Maureen, and husband John Shanski, granddaughter Kristin Shanski and partner Paul Wagner, great-granddaughters Odette and Celeste, granddaughter Karen Shanski and husband Eduardo Aquino and great-grandsons Juca and Zeca, grandson Jonathan Shanski and wife Ana Sampaio, his sister Christine Fisher, his brother John and his wife Kristy Fisher, many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews and greats. Archie is survived by his wife Rita Fisher. An honest, kind, gentle, dedicated, giving, out going, loving Father has died and our lives are guided and enriched by his memory. Many thanks to Dr. VanHorne, Dr. Albak, the Prime Program, the Grace Hospital, the Charleswood Care Centre and his new special friends there, Ken and Gloria Stear. If friends so desire, donations can be made to the Winnipeg Art Gallery and the Salvation Army. Interment has taken place.
