FRANCIS (FRANK) MACDONALD Peacefully on January 16, 2011 our beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away at the age of 89. He was predeceased by the love of his life Irene, his wife of over 50 years, and his sister Jessie. His memory will be held in the hearts of his brother Bob (Charlotte), daughters Linda and June, son Bruce (Cheryl), grandchildren Terra, Carter, Danielle, and Vanessa and his great-grandchild Mikayla. Frank was born in Winnipeg on July 31st, 1921 but grew up on a farm near Rivers, Manitoba. He spent his life helping others. He was a veteran of the Second World War serving his country in Europe. After leaving the army he settled in Winnipeg where he met Irene at the Winnipeg Roller Rink. He was well known in the Fort Rouge neighbourhood as the bike man . Anyone who needed a bicycle fixed knew they could knock on the back door and he would help them. Over the years he gave away hundreds of rebuilt bikes and repaired thousands more. He spent many an afternoon puttering in the backyard working on bicycle projects. He loved his long walks throughout the neighbourhood with one of the family dogs or taking long bike rides. Even into his early 80s he could be seen riding his orange Raleigh as he visited friends or just biked throughout the city enjoying the scenery. Our wonderful family memories include camping and fishing trips in the summer, tobogganing in the winter and his ever present sense of playfulness - he was never too old to join in a neighbourhood acorn fight or getting the neighbourhood kids together for a baseball game. He will be greatly missed by all the lives he touched. Thank you to the staff of Tuxedo Villa who looked after dad for the past two years. A private family interment will take place at a later date. We ask that all those who knew him remember him in their hearts as the wonderful man he was.
