Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryBERYL IDA NORMAN (nee TABB) Finally at peace, Beryl Norman passed away at 2:10 a.m. on Sunday, January 16, 2011 at the Grace General Hospital in Winnipeg. Remaining to forever cherish Beryl's memory are children Robert (Louise) and Valerie (Paul); grandchildren Connie (Alan), Shauna (Jay), Christine (Jim), Kimberly (Mike), Eric (Fara); great-grandchildren Vince, Valerie Lynn, Daniel, Kyle, Sarah, Bria, Mira, Alana, Amy, Natasha; nieces and nephews in particular Grant and Norman; cousin Barbara Wagner (Plymouth, England); Irene Wilson; special friends including Margaret, Marie, Myrtle, and Pat, as well as many others from Truro and Sackville Streets; the staff at Sears and the St. James Kiwanis Courts. She was predeceased in 2002 by Harry Norman, her loving husband of 30 years of marriage; parents; and former husband Harvie Way. On January 15, 1926, Beryl was born in Brixham, South Devon in England. Raised by a favourite aunt, she was a hairdresser when wartime introduced her to a sailor from Canada. Crossing the ocean on the Ile de France steamer as a war bride with a trunk full of belongings and lots of courage, she left her former life and family behind, crossed half of Canada by train, took up her new life in Winnipeg and soon had a young family. Beryl joyfully sewed for her children and later for her grandchildren. She became a Canadian citizen in 1970. She later worked at Sears Drapery workroom and made many friends with her easy going manner and ability to get the work done. In 1972, Harry Norman became her husband and loving companion for the next 30 years. Their home on Sackville Street became a meeting point for their family and friends, and if someone mentioned a problematic situation, they loved to work together to create a customized solution. They enjoyed growing beautiful flowers and bountiful vegetables, and enjoyed feeding their many bird visitors. After Harry passed, Beryl moved to the St. James Kiwanis complex in 2006. Beryl played a good game of cards at cribbage your quarter was never safe, and at bridge she shone with her bidding and play; she loved to try her luck at Manitoba's casinos. She enjoyed music and dancing, and often played the piano to entertain her guests. On Wednesday, January 26, 2011 a Celebration of Beryl's Life will be held for family and friends from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the Carter Room at Silver Heights Community Centre, 2080 Ness Ave. Refreshments will be served. A private family interment will be held at a later date. Our family would like to thank Dr. Colin Fletcher and Pharmacist Christine Hayden and their staff for their care over the years; home care workers from WRHA, and the Victoria Lifeline. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Beryl's memory may be made to the Grace Hospital Foundation Hospice, 300 Booth Dr., Winnipeg, MB R3J 3M7.
