Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLENA RIBACHUK (nee LACKO) May 22, 1921 January 20, 2011 Peacefully on the morning of January 20, 2011, Lena passed away at Fred Douglas Lodge, Evergreen Unit, at the age of 89. Lena will be sadly missed by her son Alan (Lynn) and her three grandsons Joel, Chris (Cindy) and David. Lena is survived by her brothers: Sam Lacho, Andy (Adele) Lacko; sister, Anne Pongoski; sister-in-law Pearl Lacko; and their families. Mom was predeceased by her parents Peter and Mary and brothers, Mike, John and Nick. Mom was born on the family homestead in the New Valley Community located near Arborg in the Manitoba Interlake Region. Once Mom left the family farm she came to Winnipeg and worked in the meat packing industry and also in the garment trade with Sterling Stall and Silpit Industries. Mom was a longtime member of the Ladies Auxiliary and also volunteered at the 141 Legion for many years. Mom took pride in her neighbourhood and ensured that her whole block had freshly manicured lawns every week. She always looked after stray tomcats and fed the birds that frequented her yard. She loved to garden and would always share her fresh vegetables with neighbours, friends and family. For many years Mom helped John and Mike while they lived on the family farm. We would like to express our gratitude and appreciation to the staff at Fred Douglas Lodge, Evergreen Unit for their care and compassion towards Mom. Funeral Service to take place on Monday, January 24, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street with interment and reception to follow.
