Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryERIKA HAMEL-LA BERGE (nee KAZUBEK) 1949 - 2011 It is with heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of Erika Hamel-La Berge (nee Kazubek) on January 17, 2011 at Seven Oak General Hospital. Erika leaves behind her husband Donald La Berge, daughter Kimberley Hamel (Michael Trach), mother Maria Kazubek, six siblings, many nieces, nephews and friends. Erika was predeceased by her father Marijan Kazubek, first husband Edward Hamel and oldest brother Harold Kazubek. Erika was born in Darmstadt, Germany in July of 1949. She immigrated to Canada in 1958 with her parents, brother Harold and sister Linda. She was the second of eight children in the Kazubek family and loved being a big sister. She made her parents proud with her academic achievements and worked part time jobs to help out the large family. She began her 25 year banking career in 1967 with National Trust, and often looked back on those years fondly. Erika worked hard as the manager of the Polo Park branch while holding positions as a chairperson with the Trust Companies Association, treasurer and then president of the North Winnipeg Rotary Club as well as having involvement in various community committees. She was skilled in sewing and would often create next week's wardrobe over the weekend. She loved spending time at The Narrows, taking road trips with her family and driving her T- bird. Erika's spunk, humour and kind spirit naturally attracted people towards her and she made friends wherever she went. She was a loyal, devoted and loving wife, mother, daughter and friend who would always be eager to lend a helping hand. She will be missed by all who were blessed to know her. We would like to thank Dr. Snovida, Dr. Lipschitz and the staff at Seven Oaks Hospital for caring for Erika. A special thanks to Dr. Moncek, Nurse Jaime Sardo and N.P. Mike Limerick for your kindness and compassion. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 27, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main St., West St. Paul, MB. (204) 338-7111.
