PERCY ANGUS RIDDELL KEILLOR Percy lost his battle with cancer on January 19, 2011 surrounded by family. Percy arrived early to Marjorie and Walter Keillor on March 23, 1947. He became a big brother to Betty (Dan) and Bobby. Percy grew up in the Point Douglas area attending St. John's High School where he played several sports especially enjoying football. He spent many of his summers working, scouting, and canoeing. He enjoyed spending time at Royal Lake with his family as well as becoming a member of the militia. Percy met Smiley (AKA Margaret) in February of 1969 at Gambles. Percy achieved his teaching certificate at the University of Manitoba, and then attended University of University of Winnipeg with Marg graduating with his Bachelor of Arts in 1972. He married Marg on August 18, 1973 then two weeks later started teaching at Reynolds School in Prawda. Percy continued to teach there for 36 years enriching many young lives. He attended night classes to complete his Bachelor of Education. Percy became a proud father to Laura, Daniel, Brian and Ken. Finding the Keillor Zoo was still not full; he continued to welcome others into his family. Three years ago on November 2, 2007 Laura and Rheal presented our family with a tiny miracle, Kyla McKenzie who instantly wrapped Papa around her fingers. She was 100% Papa's girl and enjoyed playing with Papa all the time. Percy did numerous roles in the community as a devoted teacher, the first scoutmaster in Canada to create a co-ed scout troop, gymnastics coach, and an organizer of jamborees. Percy taught CPR, first aid and EMS while spending time as a member of St Johns Ambulance St. Anne's brigade. Percy really enjoyed his 17 years as a paramedic for Winnipeg Goldeyes, and could always be found in section A. Percy was a proud founder of Reynolds Ambulance devoting so much time that it seemed illegal to stay in Winnipeg past 4:30 p.m. Percy's favourite holiday was Halloween which every child in the area will attest to. He was an avid reader, star gazer, gourmet chef and loved curling, the Bombers, and travelling with Marg. But what Percy loved most was spending time with his family and friends. After 37 years of marriage his home was filled with laughter and love. The service will be held Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at Westminster United Church, 745 Westminster Avenue. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the NICU ward of Children's Hospital or to a charity of your choice.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • You know how something hurts so much, that you hope it's a real, real bad dream?!? This is how I felt & still feel alot of the times. Mr. & Mrs. Keillor! What awesome folks! You gave me the strength to endure my grades: 4-5-6 at Prawda School; as we just moved to the area that spring. We were both new! I can never tell you, in words, what it meant to have you in my young life. I loved you both so much that I invited you to my 11th birthday- remember Marge? It was the best birthday for me still!! The Monkees were one of the albums you shared/introduced to me. You loved em and I sure did too. When I hear the Monkee's come on the radio-yes thanx to BOB fm radio- I ALWAYS go to you and our memories ! I know I have been blessed to have shared my life with you both. And although I went on to raise my own off-spring... I fondly recall a moment that I shared with Percy: I had been to the school on a Cub's/Scout night for my son, Kris and my niece, Amy. And upon seeing me then He bellowed out: ok ok now I KNOW I'm getting OLD...cuz now I'm teaching your kids !!! Yeah. But now you're REALLY GOOD at teaching now ! Was my reply..and with that I hugged him, turned to go with tears in my eyes bcuz somehow I knew I wasn't going to run into my bestest teachers-friends anymore. Now as my own life dwindles down, I can only hope I get to see Mr. Keillor again. Marg, Mrs. Keillor? Thank you so very very much for being in my life when I needed you, OK? Having youse there just gave me enough courage to endure my shattered world. And I think of your family often.. BUT remember this: I will always be your 'practice' kid!!! Love you all and please don't forget me, ok? Xoxo Danielle - Posted by: Danielle Allen (Dawn) (Student / friend) on: Jan 14, 2013
