Barry was born in Selkirk, Manitoba and was the eldest of 12 children born to Alex and Lona Billington. Barry leaves to mourn his passing his two children, Lisa (Brad) and Todd (Leslie); three grandchildren who held a special place in his heart, Ryan, Kyle Billington and Kassidy Reid. Dad's brothers and sisters, Joanne, Faye, Blair, Janet, Kevin, Gail, Elaine, Tommy and spouses, as well as sister-in-law Susan Billington, many nieces, nephews and friends. Dad was predeceased by his best friend and wife, our mother Karen in 1993; his parents, Alex and Lona Billington; brothers, Nelson, Bobby and his little bro Brian, all of which he will be happy to see again. Dad worked many years in the construction business before retiring as head custodian at Argyle School in the Winnipeg School Division. Dad had many passions, reading, watching movies and sports especially his beloved Detroit Red Wings. He loved coaching hockey, where for many years he was involved in the REMHA in various roles. The last few months were hard on Dad, his health had really started to slow him down which was very frustrating to him. We would like to thank his nurses and doctors for all their support over the years. Celebration of Dad's life will be held on Monday, January 24, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. in the Wheeler Funeral Chapel, 211 Regent Avenue, West. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Diabetes Association of Winnipeg. Rest in peace Dad (Pop / Poppa) we hope that you can hit the jackpot one more time playing the slot machines with Mom!
