Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJEAN HUGHES (nee CLAXTON) Peacefully, Jean Hughes passed away Thursday, January 20th, 2011 surrounded by her family. Jean was born in Grenfell, Saskatchewan April 19th, 1927. She spent many wonderful childhood summers at the family cottage in the Qu'Appelle Valley. Jean came to Winnipeg to pursue her nursing career graduating from the Winnipeg General Hospital class of '49. Jean spent several years nursing for the VON in Winnipeg before marrying John Hughes on September 6th, 1951 and moving to London, England. As they started their family, Jean and John moved back to Winnipeg. After retirement they moved to their beloved family cottage at Victoria Beach, spending 18 wonderful years living their dream surrounded by family and friends. Jean's family was her pride and joy. She leaves behind, with a lifetime of fond memories, her adoring husband of 60 years John and seven beautiful children: David (Chris), Deb (Greg), Mike (Mary), Sue, Marg (John), Jen (Myron), and Lin (David). Jean will also be remembered dearly by her grandchildren: Keri (Jordan), Kevin, Kaitlyn, Kristin, Monica, Jenny, Michelle, Michael, Andrea, Nicole, Sarah, Stephen, Bryan, Matthew and Patrick. Our family would like to extend a special thank you to all of the loving and compassionate staff at the Grace Hospice. Words can never express our appreciation for the comforting care you provided for our wife, mom and grandma. We are sure she would like to thank you for caring for her family as well. Jean and John's life together is a true everlasting love story. Their care and affection for one another is truly inspirational. Thank you for your eternal love, care and never ending support. You are the rock, the sun, and the bright shining star of our family. We will carry you with us forever and think of you always. We love you. A service to celebrate Jean's life will be held at 3:30 p.m., Monday, January 24th, 2011 at St. George's Anglican Church, 168 Wilton Street, Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Grace Hospice, 260 Booth Dr. Winnipeg R3J 3M7.
