THOMAS JOE WINGATE Suddenly on January 16, 2011 Joe passed away in Ottawa, visiting his daughter and her family, at the age of 68 years. Joe will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife of 44 years, Darlene (Kellsey), children Devon (Sean) and Jaret (Jodine). Grampa is loved by Neeley, Easten and Kingston in Stonewall and Madigan and Finn in Ottawa. Joe leaves behind his sister Cheri (Grant) MacPhail, nephews Tyler and Tim, brother-in-law Kevin (Isabel) and nieces Kaitlyn and Sydnee and step mother-in-law Sue, as well as other relatives and dear friends. He is predeceased by father Thomas, mother Vera, mother-in-law Mary, and father-in-law Joseph. Joe was a proud retired Staff Sergeant of the Winnipeg Police Service of which he served for 31 years and also of the Winnipeg Police Pipe Band. He had a love of Scottish music. His real passion, however, was for his family. Joe and Dar were virtually inseparable and enjoyed time at the lake, travelling, and most importantly, time with their kids and grandkids. He was our role model and our rock. We will cherish every moment we had with him. A celebration of Joe's life will be held at the Wheeler Funeral Chapel, 211 Regent Avenue, West in Transcona, on Friday, January 28 at 2:00 p.m. Donations can be made in Joe's memory to Ducks Unlimited Canada Habitat Heritage Program. We will watch for you in the stars Dad, as we know you are watching over us. FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS IN CARE OF: WHEELER FUNERAL CHAPEL 211 REGENT AVENUE, WEST(AT BOND ST.) 224-1525

  • We had the pleasure of getting to know Joe through his much- loved daughter, Devon, and saw firsthand his love for his family and especially his wife Darlene. A happy man who was content sitting, watching and always smiling at the commotion around. Tony cherishes the fishing trip with Joe and Sean where they shared a few laughs and told stories. Rest in peace Joe while you continue to watch and smile on them all. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of the family at this very difficult time.
