MARIE ANN LEGAULT (nee PACKO) It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Marie Legault on January 20, 2011 at the Grace Hospital in Winnipeg at the age of 84 years, as her son and loving family comforted her during her final moments in this world. Left to cherish Marie's memory is her son Eric; sisters Hazel Stevens, Rosina McAuley, Margaret Dicks and Winnifred Gabriel; brothers Ben, Albert and Milton; aunt Agnace MacKay; as well as her two grandchildren and numerous treasured nieces; nephews; relatives and friends across the country. She was predeceased by her husband Gérard Maurice (Gerry) Legault (Lachute, QC); parents Albert and Elise Packo (Grand Rapids, MB); stepson Gérard Legault Jr.; brothers Boniface, Gabriel and Norbert; and sister Cora. Born in Berens River, MB on December 23, 1926 Marie grew up as the eldest of twelve siblings in a large family in Grand Rapids, MB. As a young woman she bravely fought and won a long battle with tuberculosis and still managed to live a long, happy, active and healthy life with diminished lung capacity (she was diagnosed with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease last year). After the Second World War she lived and worked in Churchill, MB when she met her future husband Gerry. They worked together in industrial food services for Dominion Catering in Pinawa, MB and Elliot Lake, ON until Marie retired in 1983. Some of her favourite years were while living in Lachute, QC until her husband passed away in 1985. She spent the rest of her life with her son and sisters in Winnipeg, and recently enjoyed being Grams to her only two young grandchildren who will always remember her kindness. Marie's lasting legacy will surely be her unwavering kindness, modesty, good spirits and generosity. She had a truly inspiring selflessness and was renowned for always thinking of others. A private Service for Marie will be held in the Chapel of Memories in Wojcik's Funeral Chapel, 2157 Portage Avenue at Sharp Boulevard. Flowers are graciously declined, but for those wishing to express their sympathies with memories or donations, please contact her son Eric or sister Margaret.

  • In memory of my dearest Aunt Marie. She was truly loved and was an inspiration to us all on how to live the Aboriginal teachings of caring and sharing. She was generous in spirit and lives on through those she touched with her generosity. She will always reside in my heart. Love you Auntie, - Posted by: Tamara Dicks (niece) on: Mar 17, 2013
