ELSIE DETTMAN (nee STECKY) July 15, 1927 - January 23, 2011 With great sadness we announce the passing of Elsie Dettman, surrounded by family and love, at the Grace Hospital on January 23, 2011. Predeceased by her parents, John and Anne Stecky; brothers, Mike, Nick, Peter and Matt; granddaughter Amy; brothers-in-law, Dan and Jim. Elsie will be lovingly remembered by her three sons, Fred (Geri), Martin (Nancy), Herman (Penny); seven grandchildren, Chris, Michelle, Vanessa, Trevor, Cameron, Alycia, Meghan; and great-grandson Brady. She will be sadly missed by her sisters, Mary (John), Lena, Ollie, Kay (Bill), Helen; brother, Ron (Sonia); sisters-in-law, Kay, Helen and Anne, as well as many nieces and nephews. Mom was born and raised in Zhoda, Manitoba and resided most of her life in Winnipeg. In her early years she was employed as a legal secretary, then as a nurses aide for several years after. Mom worked very hard and was always there for us. After her retirement, she joined the Charleswood Senior Centre where she made many new friends. She also volunteered for several years at Eastern Star Chalet. Mom loved tending to her garden, enjoyed travelling, playing bridge and solving her Cryptoquotes. She treasured spending time with her family and friends and always had a wise word of advice to offer. Special thanks to Dr. Bshouty as well as her home care staff for the excellent care she received over the last several years. A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 28, 2011 at 10:00 a.m., at Klassen Funeral Home, 1897 Henderson Hwy. Interment to follow at Transcona Cemetery. Flowers gratefully declined, but those wishing to remember her may send a donation to The Manitoba Lung Association, 629 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3A 1P6.
