Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDONALD GEORGE DEACON Donald George Deacon, age 85, son of Fred and Margaret Deacon, passed away quietly on Sunday, January 23, 2011, in the presence of his family, at the Deer Lodge Centre, Winnipeg. He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Elizabeth (Betty) Deacon (nee Blue), sons Tim (Debbie, and grandsons James and Jeffrey) and Jamie (Lara, granddaughter Olivia and grandson Donald), and brother Bill and family. Don was born in Winnipeg in 1925, and except for one short stay in Edmonton, he lived here his entire life. He graduated from Daniel Mac High School. Don served in the R.C.A.F. in 1944 and 1945. He worked for Fairbanks Morse (CAE Morse) for 45 years, and then worked at Luke's Machinery until he retired at the age of 65 years. Don was a member and past president of the Wartime Pilots and Observers Association. He was also a member of the Ghost Squadron and held an active part in the Wallasey Street Gang. Don volunteered for the Christmas Cheer Board for many years. He also received an Award from the province recognizing his generosity to others. He was a person that would give his time selflessly to those who needed it. And did so in many ways. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Tower 7 at Deer Lodge Centre for looking after Don during his stay there. You treated him with respect and kindness which we will not forget. Friends are asked to consider a donation to the Christmas Cheer Board or to another charity of your choice. Interment will take place prior to memorial service which will be held on Friday, January 28 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Andrews Anglican Church. Reception will follow in the Parish Hall.
