AGANETHA (NETTIE) DOERKSEN Aganetha (Nettie) Doerksen, aged 84 years of Altona, Manitoba and formerly of Sommerfeld, Manitoba passed away at the Altona Health Care Centre on January 26, 2011. Nettie Doerksen was born October 15, 1926 in the Altona District to Peter and Susan Friesen. On September 19, 1946 she married Abram Doerksen and was baptized at the Sommerfeld Mennonite Church. Nettie and Abe farmed and resided three miles North East of Sommerfeld for 16 years and in 1963 they moved to the village of Sommerfeld, and in 1986 retired in Altona. Nettie was always very supportive and showed great interest in all family matters. Two of her favourite pastimes were caregiving and sewing. Nettie has left to mourn her passing three children: Edwin, Virginia and Raymond; a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two sisters, one brother, three brothers-in-law and three sisters-in-law. She was predeceased by her son Albert in 1966, her daughter Irene in 2000 and her husband Abe in 2005. The funeral service will be held Sunday, January 30, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the Sommerfeld Mennonite Church in Altona, with interment to follow in the Altona Cemetery. Viewing will be at Wiebe Funeral Home Altona on Saturday, January 29, 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and at the church prior to the service. The family wishes to thank the staff of the Ebenezer Home and the home care workers for the wonderful care over the almost five years she resided there. In memory of Nettie Doerksen donations may be made to The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba and / or to CancerCare Manitoba.
