LAURA JEAN MARIE MOWAT (nee BASSET) January 25, 1961 - January 24, 2011 Peacefully, with her family by her side, Laura passed away at the St. Boniface Hospital on Monday, January 24, 2011. She is survived by her loving husband and best friend Brian, children Breanne and Tyler, father Maurice Basset and his wife Beverly, brother Robert Basset and wife Kathy (Justin, Nikki, Julie, Dustin), brother Frederick Basset and wife Sandi (Alissa and Sam), baby sister Lisa and husband Chris Cooper (Jasmine, Michael, Kaitlyn, and Melissa), mother-in-law Lois Mowat, sister-in-law Sandi Mowat, brother-in-law Michael Mowat and wife Annette of Cochrane, Alberta (Shalene and Caitlyn), special friends Craig and Kathy Downs, special auntie Patricia Campbell, special friends Lorraine, Annie, and Lizzy, the six pack, and numerous aunties, uncles and cousins. She was predeceased by her mother Jeannie, infant daughter Amanda Joan, brother-in-law Jeffrey Mowat, father-in-law Roger Mowat, paternal grandparents Joseph and Marthe Basset, maternal grandparents George and Laura Campbell, uncle Robert Campbell, and uncle John Basset. Laura spent most of her childhood growing up in St. Vital on St. Anne's Road attending Varennes elementary school and Glenlawn Collegiate. At 16 the family moved to Southdale to live on Edgewater Drive. She finished high school at J.H. Bruns collegiate graduating in 1979. During her summers Laura and her family enjoyed travelling across Canada and parts of the U.S. in her mom and dad's motor home. Laura worked various jobs until she went to work at Teddy Bob's Country in the Stock Exchange Hotel which was owned by her father and two brothers. She worked many different jobs there until becoming the manager of the hotel. She combined her work life with giving birth to three children. After a few years there she moved over to first Aactive Coin Machines and most recently Aactive Pool Leagues where she assisted Scott in the management of the league. She was well respected by the players in the league. She loved working with her Dad, Bob, Ted, and Lisa and all the people at Aactive Coin Machines. She was a big fan of NASCAR and was able to go to numerous races in the U.S. with Brian, her parents, and friends. Laura had so much fun on these trips. Laura was a big bingo player who enjoyed her nights out with her bingo girls most recently at Norberry-Glenlee and Christ The King Catholic Church. She enjoyed all the people she played with just as much as she did winning. Laura had so many different groups of friends... from her Prairie Theater, her Green Apples, girls lunches and her Crazy Girls nights, she was a big part of them all. You could always count on Laura for anything day or night. Her presence will be truly missed by all. The family would like to thank all the nurses and medical staff who gave great medical care to Laura in both the MICU and A5 south at the St. Boniface Hospital and the City Of Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service who worked relentlessly on Laura to save her. An extra special thanks to Dr. Davinder Jassal who took care of Laura in her time of need. His professionalism and caring helped us get through this difficult time. Rest In Peace Lornie. A memorial service will be held on Monday, January 31, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. Cremation has taken place and interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Boniface Hospital Research Foundation in Laura's memory. Online condolences may be made at www.glenlawn.ca Glen Lawn Funeral Home 982-7550
