ROBERT SIDNEY MAIN 1936 - 2011 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Robert Sidney Main passed away peacefully in the early hours of January 27, 2011 at Teulon Hospital. Sid', as he was known, was born on July 23, 1936, in Winnipeg, and was the eldest son of Bob and Marj Main. He is survived by his son Warner (Debrah, Arisha), daughter Erin (Grant) and her mother Donna, sister Madge (John), brother Reg (Joan), and brother Glenn (Jean). He was Uncle Sid' to his six nieces and nephews: Shelley (Glen), Sean, Ian (Ellen), Gordon (Darlene), Kelley (Frederic) and Tammy (Brent.) He also leaves to mourn his passing 12 great-nieces and nephews as well as many dear cousins. He was predeceased by his mother and father, as well as by Warner's mother, Linda Gray. Sid's early years were spent in the town of Balmoral where he attended school. Following his education, Sid had a colourful and a varied working career. In 1955 he joined the Air Force. After that he worked at (in no particular order) Northern Messenger, Subterranean, Carlson's Mobile Homes, and worked as a restaurant manager, school bus driver, firefighter, ambulance driver, and store owner. As a result of these wide and varied activities, Sid amassed an assortment of valued friends from all walks of life. Sid was a man's man' and loved nothing better than to sit with a friend over a cup of coffee. He was a friend to all, and was generous to a fault. He was the first one to help a friend in need. He loved country life, having returned to Balmoral in the early 1970s from Winnipeg, where he remained until his passing. He loved the outdoors and the farming life. His red truck could be seen slowly travelling the countryside checking the crops'. Sid will be missed by all who knew him, especially his family, coffee shop friends, and residents of Sprucewood Place, Balmoral. Sid's service of remembrance and a celebration of his life will be held on Wednesday, February 2, at 2:00 p.m. in the MacKenzie Funeral Chapel, 433 Main Street, Stonewall, Manitoba. The service will conclude at the chapel with a private family interment to take place at a later date at Stonewall Cemetery where Sid will be laid to rest with his parents. In lieu of flowers, friends who so desire may make a donation to the Balmoral Rec Center Balmoral, Manitoba, in Sid's honour, and lift a cup of coffee in his name. MacKenzie Funeral Home, Stonewall in care of arrangements.
