MARV THIESSEN February 12, 1949 - January 27, 2011 It is with great sadness that the family of Marv Thiessen announce his sudden passing on January 27, 2011, at the age of 61. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Joanne; his children, Christy (Brian), Kathryn (Nolan) and Graeme (Myra); his precious grandsons, Lucas and Logan; his mother, Margaret; siblings Don (Joy), Cherril (Heinz), Harv (Joyce), Larry (Brenda) and their families. He was predeceased by his father, Frank. Marv studied Radio and Television Communications at NAIT in Edmonton, briefly working at CBC and Shaw Cable after graduation. He then moved to Winnipeg in 1978 to work as a video producer for Mennonite Brethren Communications before accepting his current position at Winnipeg Shaw Cable. Marv's work ethic and pride in a job well done were most evident in the home renovations he loved to do. Home Depot will miss him! He was the family optimist and an instant friend to everyone he met. He had the gift of hospitality and the heart of a servant. Coffee was always on in his home for anyone who came through the front door. He would drop everything to help a friend or neighbour who needed his skills or just needed to borrow one of his tools. After helping one of these many friends his ideal method of relaxation was to spend an evening with a good glass of red wine, some jazz and some Russian literature. Marv's Christian faith was simple but profound. His favourite book was The Imitation of Christ' by Thomas a Kempis. He often spoke of how he looked forward to eternal life with Christ. If desired, donations may be made to Siloam Mission or World Vision. A memorial service will be held at Westwood Community Church, 401 Westwood Drive, on Wednesday, February 2, at 1:00 p.m.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • I have very fond childhood recollections of my cousin Marv coming to visit our farm in Vauxhall, Alberta. I admired his energy and genuine love of work, whether it was baling hay or shovelling grain or caring for the farm animals. He was a real mensch whose kindness, wonderful sense of humor and ready laughter is emblazoned in my memory. - Posted by: Paul Thiessen (Family) on: Jan 29, 2011
